We woke up this morning around 7 AM to have a quick
breakfast and head out to begin our 10 hour journey via bus. With all the windy
roads and starting and stopping in the city, many students (including myself)
quickly decided to pop some Tylenol, Tums, or Dramamine, or all three if they
felt really bad. Everyone is already very thankful for Mrs. Metzger and her
magical bag of nursing supplies. Since the majority of us took Dramamine
following our bagged lunches, we all took a collective two hour nap, something
I’m certain the adults were very grateful for. Following our group nap, most of
us entertained ourselves with music and conversation. Surprisingly, a 10 hour
bus ride through the mountains was more enjoyable than the 8 hour plane ride
the day before – probably because most of us were asleep for most of the ride.
Once we arrived in Kusi, we were greeted by the house father
and his wife, as well as the boys that live here. After settling in our rooms,
we joined the boys for dinner. Topics at our table included my (apparently)
prominent Adam’s apple, Preston’s lack of facial hair, Captain America, King
Kong, the Hulk, and, of course, soccer. Tomorrow we will begin working in the
morning and then have our first day of VBS in the afternoon. Pictures to come tomorrow.
