Day 06: It's "Lit"

Friday was our final work day and our final VBS. In the morning, after a breakfast of pancakes with Nutella or honey, we split up into groups to continue working on finishing painting the buildings, creating a new adobe building, and putting in a new sidewalk. Although we only had to work through noon, since it was the boys turn to go to Kawaq-Yaku (check out www.5and2global.org for more information).
The girls remained at Kusi cleaning up after the projects and having a lunch here, while the boys (and their respective parents) piled into two vans and made our way back down the mountain to Yungay. Upon arrival, anyone with an electronic device immediately connected it to the free Wi-Fi and called home to their parents, updated their social media, and text friends. (I was told by Kate that only the boys did this and not the girls.) However, I was more excited about the cheeseburger with avocado and fruit smoothie that I was about to consume. The food definitely lived up to its expectations.
Once we made it back to Kusi, we immediately began our final, celebratory VBS – complete with bubbles, polaroid pictures (for each kid), songs (although without practice we, as the leaders, were a little rough that day), and beach balls. Because, what underwater themed VBS is complete without beach balls?
Later that night we all met together (including the boys from Kusi) following devotions and dinner for bonfire/worship session. During the bonfire we sang songs in English and Spanish, as well as shared testimonials. At the end of the bonfire, we all threw a piece of paper into the fire with the name of a person (or persons) who we forgave during the trip (forgiveness was a major component of our devos at the beginning of the week). As Hunter said, “brah, the Holy Spirit was lit tonight,” or, in normal English, “Brother in Christ, the Holy Spirit moved tonight.”

Matthew and Marlo, the most recent boy to join the home (he arrived the same day we did).
The kids are attempting to catch marbles in a small pool for the opening game.
